Who do you Think you Are?

Hola,

Yoxani here, with a new adventure.

Have you ever heard the saying, “You are what you eat?” It makes sense. Well, kind of.  Although there are times that there is nothing we can do to prevent certain illnesses, as a general rule if you want optimal health, then you need to eat nutritious food and take care of your body.

But, what does this have to do with me, you may think? Well hear me out, just a little here.

What we think, is just as important or maybe even more important than the food we eat. We think before we act.  We think before we take a shower and before we drive to wherever we need to go. We think before we try again, and we think before we give up.

In the end we are what we think, more so than what we eat. In other words, we usually get what we look for. But, the question is what are you looking for? What are you really thinking about?

Are you thinking? “I want to have strong relationships with my kids, spouse or (insert person here), I want the house of my dreams, I want peace, I want to know that I matter and that I’m loved, I want to be of importance in someone else life, I want to live my life with purpose. And if you happen to be a writer perhaps you are thinking I want to become a multi-published author or a New York Times’ best-selling author”

Whatever the case may be, you ought to get what you want, and this is how.

When we focus all of our energy in the things that we don’t want in our lives, we tend to get those things. As a result, we see the same outcome from our efforts, over and over. When we focus on that dinner we want to prepare, the perfect moment to share with our love ones, or that novel you wan to finish, then we get there. It may not be when we expect or the way we intended it to be, but it still comes, one way or another.

We are what we think, we get what we want, and what we really want is usually not where we expend all of our efforts.

A book that has become a classic is Think and grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. If you haven’t read that little book, I highly recommend you give it a try. It’s not really what you may expect.  When someone recommend it to me, I thought it was going to be all about a guy trying to lecture me about how I’m supposed to be bringing the big bucks home. Instead, I was surprised to find page after page of interesting anecdotes and important lessons from the lives of the people in the stories. The stories range from the persistence of a little girl, to a penniless gold digger to big company managers.

Now here another example of the power of our minds. Consider this extraordinary man who lived through the Holocaust. His name is Viktor E. Frankl. He lost every person he ever cared for, his entire family was killed during this horrific time, and yet he survived. He focused his energy on what he really wanted, and that was to live.

He could be denied food. He could be beaten, but there was something nobody could take from him and that was his freedom to choose what he wanted to make out of all the stuff happening around. Nobody could take that power from him. He later wrote a book, another classic, Man’s Search for Meaning. This is another book I highly recommend.

Now all of this translates to all of us whomever you are, wherever you are in life, following our dreams to the end is the way. Getting what we really want, and following all the steps necessary to accomplish that ultimate goal. And let’s face it, we all want something to improve in our lives, there is no shame in that, is life.  But just remember that there is a time and place for everything. This may sound a little contradictory but it really is not. It’s all about honoring who you are and who you want to become, honoring where you are at and where you are going. Don’t stop three feet before you strike gold. You never know what you are about to discover by digging just a little deeper.
